DESIGN YOU Quote of the Day

“Basically, I feel fortunate to have realized what the goal is in life. There’s no point in dying having gone through your life without knowing who you are, what you are, or what the purpose of life is. And that’s all it is.”  George Harrison

The single greatest commitment we have is to our self; to find, free and follow who we are and what it is we are meant to do with our life.

DESIGN YOU Quote of the Day: Bono

“To be one, to be united is a great thing. But to respect the right to be different is maybe even greater.” Bono

Live your dream, even if it makes you different from everyone else. Because YOU ARE! And, that’s the secret sauce of living your destiny. You have something to give to you and to the world that no one else can.

Bessie Coleman’s High Altitude Passion

bessie-coleman-2American civil aviator Bessie Coleman was the first female pilot of African American descent, the first African American woman to hold a pilot license and the first American woman to hold an international pilot license.

A public library in Chicago was named in Coleman’s honor, as are roads at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Oakland International Airport in Oakland, California, Tampa International Airport in Florida, and at Frankfurt International Airport.

A memorial plaque has been placed by the Chicago Cultural Center at the location of her former home, 41st and King Drive in Chicago, and by custom, black aviators drop flowers during flyovers of her grave at Lincoln Cemetery. Several Bessie Coleman Scholarship Awards have been established for high school seniors planning on careers in aviation and the U.S. Postal Service issued a 32-cent stamp honoring her in 1995. In 2006, she was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame and in 2012 a bronze plaque with was installed on the front doors of Paxon School for Advanced Studies located on the site of the Jacksonville airfield where Coleman’s fatal flight took off.

Football Legend’s Spin on Work

george-halas-1George Stanley Halas, Sr., nicknamed “Papa Bear” and “Mr. Everything”, was a player, coach, owner, and pioneer in professional American football. Founder of the Chicago Bears of the National Football League as well as the NFL itself,  Halas was also an inventor, radio producer, philanthropist, philatelist and professional major league baseball player. He became one of the first inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

George Halas’ spin on work is a powerfully simple qualifier:

“Nothing is work unless you’d rather be doing something else.”

Bon Jovi in One Word

bon-jovi-2Front man Jon Bon Jovi has led the self-named American rock band to 13 studio albums, 2 compilation LPs and 2 “live” albums selling more than 130 million records worldwide. Bon Jovi has performed more than 2,700 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans.  The band was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame, honored with the Award of Merit at the American Music Awards and as songwriters and collaborators, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

It’s a challenge to encapsulate that kind of musical legacy into one word but Jon Bon Jovi notches another #1 with a bullet:

“Nothing is as important as passion. No matter what you do with your life, be passionate.”
