How long does it take to get hired?

It’s one of the most common questions I hear from clients—and the answer isn’t as simple as it used to be. There was an old rule of thumb: “Expect one month of job searching for every $10,000 in salary.” That guideline may have worked pre-2020, but today’s post-COVID career landscape looks very different.

🔍 Here’s what’s influencing hiring timelines in 2025:

📉 Industry volatility – Tech? Slower. Healthcare? Faster. Retail and logistics? Depends on the region.
⏳ Level of role – Entry-level jobs can be filled in weeks. Senior and executive roles? 3–6 months or more.
🧠 AI screening systems – If your resume isn’t optimized for ATS, you’re invisible before you’re even reviewed.
📅 Seasonality – Summer and Q4 often bring slower hiring. Q1 tends to be most active.
🔗 Networking & strategy – Active networkers and strategic applicants land roles faster, plain and simple.

💡What I tell my clients is this:
Job searching is part preparation, part timing, and part momentum.

The key is to control what you can—your resume, your messaging, your strategy—and to stay consistent even when the market isn’t.
If you’re wondering how long your job search should take… that’s a conversation worth having with a coach who understands your specific industry, role level, and goals.
